APGS 2018 – Sustainability Delivered!
|For more than a decade, the term “sustainability” has been bandied about the golf industry with a plethora of special position papers presented by various stake-holders. As a matter of fact, when the Asia Pacific Golf Summit was launched way back in 2007, virtually a whole day was devoted to this topic and sadly, most of the delegates walked away confused!
Fast forward to the present day, and confusion still prevails! The easy way out would be to sweep this matter under the rug and just get on with things. However, it’s not as simple as that! Why so? Because “sustainability” is a key issue that has a tremendous bearing on how golf courses operate today in a setting where environmental and cost issues take on paramount importance.
We feel that the time has come when all in the golf industry need to seek support for golf facilities especially when it concerns the minimisation of environmental impact in the areas of waste, water, energy and air quality.
Given the importance of sustainability, the 2018 Asia Pacific Golf Summit will place special focus on the topic but rather than pontificate over the matter, special arrangements have been made to stage a very hands-on, show-and-tell presentation on sustainability at work.
To help drive the point home, the award-winning Thai Country Club (TCC), a leading proponent of sustainability practices, has come on board and anchored by its general manager, John Blanch, assisted by his director of agronomy, Brian Distel, the dynamic duo will deliver a presentation that will put on show the tangible results to be had with a well-planned sustainability programme.
In this no-holds barred presentation, Blanch and Distel will share how they have reduced costs, improved playing conditions and increased revenues for TCC with their revolutionary programmes. Some of the highlights of this critical presentation will look at:
“In a nutshell, the Thai Country Club experience has been one designed to create innovative approaches to measurably minimize negative environmental impacts, improve economic bottom lines and grow a community culture for sustainability,” explained Blanch.
